改性塑料材質是指通過在塑料樹脂中添加一種或多種其它物質，來達到改變其原有性能、改善一方面或多方面性能，從而達到拓展其適用范圍之目的的方法。所以把經過改性的塑料材質統稱為改性塑料塑料改性有哪些幾種方法以下來說說：
1、增強：通過加入玻璃纖維、碳纖維、云母粉等纖維狀或片狀填料來達到增加材料剛性及強度的目的，如電動工具中使用的玻璃纖維增強尼龍等。

2、增韌：通過在塑料型材生產中加入橡膠、熱塑性彈性體等其它物質來達到提高其韌性/沖擊強度的目的，如汽車、家電及工業用途中常見的增韌聚丙烯等。

3、共混：將兩種或多種不完全相容的聚合物材料均勻地混合成宏觀相容、微觀分相的混合物，以滿足對物理機械性能、光學性能、加工性能等方面的某些要求的方法。

4、合金：與共混相似，但組分間相容性好，容易形成均相體系，并且可獲得單一組分所無法達到的某些性能，如PC/ABS合金，或PS改性PPO等。

5、填充：通過在塑料型材生產中加入填料來達到改善物理機械性能或降低成本的目的。

6、其它改性：如利用導電性填料來降低塑料的電阻率;添加抗氧化劑/光穩定劑來改善材料的耐候性;加入顏料/染料來改變材料的顏色、加入內/外潤滑劑使材料的加工性能得到改善、使用成核劑改變半結晶性塑料的結晶特性來改善其機械性能及光學性能等等。

除了上述物理改性方法外，還有利用化學反應對塑料進行改性，使之獲得特定性能的方法，如馬來酸酐接枝聚烯烴、聚乙烯的交聯、紡織行業中利用過氧化物來使樹脂降解以改善流動性/成纖性能等。
工業上經常會將多種改性方法共同使用，比如在塑料增強改性過程中為了不過多損失沖擊強度而同時加入橡膠等增韌劑;或熱塑性硫化膠(TPV)的生產中同時存在物理混合和化學交聯等等。實際上，任何一種塑料原料在出廠時都最起碼含有一定比例的穩定劑，以防止其在儲存、運輸及加工中降解，因此，嚴格意義上的“非改性塑料”是不存在的。但是，在工業上，通常將化工廠生產的基礎樹脂稱為“非改性塑料”，或“純樹脂”。
