POM在應用過程中，通常有性能和成本上的雙重優勢，使得材料選擇的天平偏向聚甲醛。下面看看POM制品能夠替代的哪些塑膠型材產品。

1、聚酯: POM在某些PBT的典型應用場合的表現優于PBT(基于更好的耐熱及耐藥性)，而其電氣性能已經足夠，此時成本優勢凸顯。

在高級轎車應用中，成本差別達到百分之二十。所以在汽車制造領域PBT與增強聚酰胺、聚碳酸酯、聚甲醛的競爭中，聚甲醛蠶食其市場的情況屢有發生。

2、聚碳酸酯(PC):汽車工業中PC在內外裝飾件方面使用歷史比較悠久，但POM固有性能加上相關新技術帶來的可能性及成本差別，使之在內外裝飾件范疇內替代了一大批PC的結構方案。

3、聚酰胺(尼龍):聚酰胺品種較多，應用起步早，工業性應用基礎較好。但是在一系列特性方面POM都要略勝一籌的局面下，它確有潛力在許多場合下替代尼龍。

在進氣歧管方面以增強POM代替尼龍的做法由寶馬福特這些領頭汽車企業帶頭實現，發動機范疇的其他一些結構件都紛紛跟進。據估算，一旦成功，即顯出百分之三十的成本優勢。

4、聚苯硫醚(PPS):雖體現出它對與其他通用工程塑料的總體優勢，但實際的應用領域中，綜合性能方面與POM的差距，以及POM本身的特長，使POM有很好的機會進入通常為PPS所占據的應用領域。

5、聚四氟乙烯(PTFE):摩擦磨耗特性與耐疲勞、耐蠕變性，使得其在許多應用中能夠取代聚四氟乙烯。
